Homemaking Tips Simple Living
What is a homemaker? What does homemaking mean?
A homemaker is a woman who invests her time, love, and passion into turning her house into a home. Often, she is a mom or wife (or both), striving to create a peaceful, loving environment for her family. However, a homemaker can also be a woman who is single and creating a place of peace for herself or a family she wishes to have in the future. ☺️
Homemaking is combined of a variety of tasks that make the home a cleaner, more efficient space that removes chaos and allows for more joyful memories to be made in the home.
These tasks often look like cleaning, cooking/baking, or doing projects around the home -- more on this in the next few sections!
How can I be a perfect homemaker?
While it's not possible to be "perfect" in any area of life, we understand and appreciate your desire to be the best homemaker you can be.
The first thing to do is to let the idea of being "perfect" go. When you do that, you'll remove pressure on yourself to have it all together, and it will make homemaking a lot more enjoyable for you. ☺️
However, the way you can be the best homemaker possible is by putting the Lord first in your home. Letting God lead you in your homemaking tasks is the only assured way to get the most out of your time spent! When we put God first in what we do, and ask for His leadership, He will show us how to use our time effectively, and we will also do our tasks with much more of a sense of peace and fulfillment than if we tried to do them on our own.
Biblical homemaking brings such a sense of satisfaction and will provide a peaceful, joyful atmosphere for your family.
How can I be the best stay at home wife and mom?
In addition to the things we've already mentioned, creating a daily homemaking schedule as a stay at home wife and mom can help you stay organized with all of the homemaking tasks you want to get done each day. It will also give you a sense of satisfaction, being able to check things off your list and knowing that they're complete. You'll be able to look back at the end of each day and think "Man, I did that." ☺️
In the next section is a sample homemaker to do list schedule for simple homemaking.
What is a daily homemaking schedule example?
- 6am: Wake up. Make the bed. Brush your teeth, wash your face, and brush your hair. Get ready for the day.
- 6:15am: Bible and prayer time.
- 6:45am: Put away any clean dishes/empty dishwasher. Start a load of laundry.
- 7am: Spot sweep/vacuum the floors in high-traffic areas.
- 7:15am: Children wake up. Get them ready for the day.
- 7:45-4pm: *Reserving this time for your typical daily to-do's, whether it's going to the gym, working a job, or taking care of your kids.*
- 4pm: A quick house pick-up. Transfer any laundry to the dryer or fold laundry and put away.
- 4:30pm: Start dinner. Wash dishes/put them in the dishwasher as they're being made.
- 5pm: Dinner time.
- 5:45pm: Put away the rest of the dishes used at dinner. Do a quick wipe-down of your table, countertops, and stove.
- 6:15pm: Bathtime and bedtime routine for the kiddos. (Make sure to make this enjoyable and soak up these sweet moments that will pass by so quickly! Play with your kids in the bath, read them a bedtime story, have a tickle fight before putting them down. 🥰)
- 7pm: Bedtime for the kiddos.
- 7:05pm: One more quick pick-up of anything out of place in the home. Put away any more clean laundry.
- 7:15pm: Get yourself ready for bed. Pamper yourself, mama!
- 7:30pm: Rest and spend time with your husband! Read, watch a movie, cuddle!
Here, I'm talking about reserving about 1-3 hours (depending on the size of your home) each week for mopping, scrubbing the toilets, and cleaning the bathrooms. Maybe you even hit some baseboards and dust if needed!
This homemaking routine will allow you to stay on top of things so your house doesn't get chaotic, and laundry, dishes, and animal hair on the floor don't pile up, without you feeling overwhelmed trying to do everything every day.
Pro tip: Also choose 1-2 days a week to schedule in your grocery trips, depending on if you need 1 or 2 trips a week. Block out some time for planning your meals for the weeks, then write out your grocery list accordingly.
What is the main homemaking task?
When it comes down to it, the main homemaking task is loving on your family. When your children are grown, they won't remember the cleanliness of your home or the tastiness of your meals as much as they'll remember the love and affection you showed them and the memories you created together as a family. ☺️
